It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in sunny Singapore, where sparkling lights come out to play at night. There are nutcrackers and igloos, snow cities and singing trees, carolling broadcasts and light installations at these four, must-see places we’ve found that’s keeping the holiday spirit burning bright.

Spread love this Christmas at Somerset, Orchard, and Tanglin
Want to see Christmas On A Great Street? Then head down to the sub-precincts of Somerset, Orchard, and Tanglin, where you’ll be greeted by a dazzling display of lights and decorations, including snowflakes intertwined with mistletoe and hollies.
Now in its 37th year, Orchard’s great Christmas Light-Up will be running from 13 November 2020 to 1 January 2021. They will be turned on from 6.30 p.m. to midnight (Sundays to Thursdays), 6.30 p.m. to 2 a.m. (Fridays and Saturdays), and 6.30 p.m. to 6.a.m (Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve).
Taking centre stage this year is the central arch at the junction of Orchard and Patterson, decked out in a colossal blue ribbon, glitter-coated reindeer, and bright red boughs of holly in white, gold, and blue. Though we’ll be missing the lively buskers and street performers that line the stretch of Orchard and Somerset, we’ll stick to sitting on the steps of Wisma Atria and taking pictures of the Christmas ornaments, including the white and gold baubles hanging from the trees and lampposts that line the boulevard.
Great, giant Christmas trees are up outside iON, Paragon, and 313 @ Somerset as well. Wheelock Place has also assembled an assortment of Christmas displays at its entrance, a beckoning signal for all to partake in the season’s festivities.
If you’re intent on staying at home, don’t worry. You won’t miss out on any of the festive decorations and light displays as you can drive along the 3.1km stretch from Scotts Road, Tanglin Mall, all the way to Dhoby Ghaut, on an all-new virtual 360-degree tour.
It’s no surprise that the annual celebration at Singapore’s premier shopping district is a quieter affair. Still, we’ll be waiting until we can see the well-loved Great Christmas Village outside of Ngee Ann City once again.

However, the best part has to be Snow City, where you can be transported to one of the Christmas movies showing on Netflix right now. (Lily and Dash, anyone? Frozen 2? Frozen 2? No? Okay.) To live in a tropical country like Singapore is to give up hope of experiencing a white Christmas, so having fake snow will have to do! Poinsettia Wishes 2020
Garden by the Bay’s well-loved floral display is back! After a long hiatus, the Poinsettia Wishes 2020* brings back a reimagined Gouda City Hall at the Flower Dome. The Gouda City Hall is an iconic landmark in the Netherlands visited for its annual Christmas candle light-up.
Take a peek at how Europeans do Christmas at Gardens by the Bay, where an impressive replica of the famous Gouda City Hall stands.

Another annual Christmas affair that we look forward to is Garden by the Bay’s Christmas Wonderland 2020. The seventh edition of one of Singapore’s most significant festive events will be available physically and online, from 19 November to 31 December 2020, featuring brand-new light installations in the Walk of Lights.
The stunning display of holiday cheer will feature curated light installations in new designs, where you can:
- Illuminate your night down the picturesque Path of Tranquility, where a bed of lights guide you to festive bliss.
- Be dazzled by the magnificent Spalliera, with its multi-coloured patterns that cast a vibrant shadow on all who visit.
